‘I went to Warner Bros.’ studio in the UK and got back in the suit,’ he explained. ‘It was a very powerful moment for me. I wasn’t sure how I would feel…whether it would be something very emotionally connective because I put the Man of Steel suit back on. I chose that one in particular because of the nostalgia attached to the suit.’

Cavill wore that version of the suit in the 2013 film Man of Steel, his debut as the The Last Son of Krypton.

He continued, ‘It was important for me to be standing there and enjoying that moment. That is one of the top moments in my career. It feels great to have the opportunity to wear it again. I told myself I’m gonna let it sit and simmer in the background. I never lost hope, that was the key for me.’

He teased that his cameo was ‘just a very small taste of things to come’ in a social media video, shared with his 22 million Instagram followers on Monday.

‘I wanted to wait until the weekend was over before posting this because I wanted to give you all a chance to watch Black Adam,’ Cavill said in the footage video. ‘But now that plenty of you have, I wanted to make it official: I am back as Superman.’

Additionally, he said: ‘So there’s a lot to be thankful for and I’ll get to that in time. But I wanted to thank you guys most of all.’

The Enola Holmes actor concluded: ‘Thanks for your support and patience. I promise it will be rewarded.’

Over the years, he portrayed Clark Kent/Superman in 2016’s Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and 2017’s Justice League, along with 2021’s Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

As of now, Deadline reported ‘there’s no Man of Steel 2 yet’ or director or writer on the pending sequel.

In 2021, Cavill said he ‘would absolutely love the opportunity’ to reprise his role.

‘The cape’s still in the closet,’ he told The Hollywood Reporter. ‘There is still a lot of storytelling for me to do as a Superman.’

There have been rumors for months that Cavill would return in Black Adam, though they were never fully confirmed until earlier this month during the New York City premiere of Black Adam.

A post-credits scene after the movie features the long-awaited scene where Cavill’s Superman confronts Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam.

Cavill’s Man of Steel tells Black Adam, ‘It’s been a while since anyone’s made the world this nervous,’ likely referring to himself, setting up some sort of showdown between to the comic book characters.

The actual post-credit scene started to leak onto Twitter and TikTok on October 6, though both social media platforms tried scrubbing them down.

Twitter said in a statement to Variety that it was ‘removing the content in line with our rules,’ while TikTok is doing the same.

Before Black Adam’s release on Friday, Johnson hinted at the Cavill cameo in a few different interviews.

He spoke with Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet at the New York premiere, where the interviewer stated that the ‘cat was out of the bag’ about Cavill’s appearance.

While Johnson didn’t exactly confirm the cameo… he didn’t deny it either, revealing the true ‘goal’ of the movie.

‘I can tell you that the whole goal and initiative of Black Adam was to build out the DC Universe by introducing not only Black Adam, but the entire JSA (Justice Society of America),’ Johnson began.

‘So, for years, audiences have been so passionate and vocal about – we’ve established Black Adam as the most powerful and unstoppable force on our planet,’ he added.

‘But the fans have been so passionate about… ‘Where is the most unstoppable force in the universe? Where is he?’ Well… we’ve all been fighting for this moment, so I will say this: Welcome home,’ Johnson teased, referring to Cavill’s Superman.

He also teased the cameo in a Wednesday appearance on The Tonight Show, where host Jimmy Fallon also hinted at the cameo.

‘I have been saying this is a new era in the DC Universe that I love. Yes we’re going to introduce new characters, but new era also means listening to the fans,’ Johnson said.

‘For a very long time, for years, fans have been screaming. We established Black Adam as the most powerful and unstoppable force on this planet. The most powerful and unstoppable force in the entire universe has been on the sidelines for too long,’ he added.

‘So, myself, Seven Bucks, Danny Garcia, Hiram Garcia, we fought, and we weren’t gonna take no for an answer. We were gonna deliver it to the fans. And then, at the end, um…welcome home,’ Johnson teased.
