‘After one year of marriage and careful thought and consideration, we have decided to part ways.’

The former couple’s joint Instagram statement went on to include the diplomatic line: ‘However, this was not an easy decision to make.’

In closing, the former couple wrote: ‘We leave our marriage with enormous love and respect for each other. We only ask that, at this time, our privacy is respected.’

Dickerson, a municipal wastewater operator, and Goode, a benefit calculation analyst, thrust themselves under the harsh glare of reality TV when they went on Married at First Sight.

After fourteen seasons, the reality show has matched 54 couples, 33 of which chose to actually stay married on ‘Decision Day.’

As of July, more than half of those 33 couples have split, leaving only 13.

The pair initially experienced ups and downs in their romantic experiment, with Dickerson calling his new wife ‘lazy’ and expressing his desire for her to cook on a daily basis.

Despite their initial differences, Katina and Olajuwon’s relationship survived and the couple became officially engaged on the show’s reunion episode.

Dickerson told his wife that she embodied his life credo: ‘Work hard today, focus on tomorrow and the rest is history.’

‘You taught me patience and effort is the key to a happy life and a happy marriage. Katina, I couldn’t be any happier to call you my wife, and I mean that.’

‘I would hope you accept this,’ he said, dropping down on one knee and presenting his wife with ‘big ass’ engagement ring. ‘Now you know your husband, and you’re confident to continue this journey with me.”

Emotional tears and an emphatic yes followed Olajuwon’s proposal and the pair went on to broadcast their love on social media.

‘Love is not about how many days, months, or years you’ve been together,’ Katina wrote as she captioned an anniversary post on August 1. ‘Love is about how much you love each other every single day.’

Over the summer, when things between the reality TV couple were still presumably happy, Katina penned another Instagram tribute to her soon-to-be ex-husband.

‘To my husband,’ she gushed. ‘This has been quite the adventure. I can’t wait for what God has in store for us. Thank you for growing with me, building with me and loving me.’

‘I am so proud of the man you continue to strive to be,’ she continued. ‘Thank you for not giving up on us, and showing up in this marriage every day. I love you.’
